Avatar Hijacked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D: - UPDATE

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 9, 2008, 1:53 PM

I've found another user that seems to have hijacked my avatar. :noes: And then to make it worse, took credit when someone posted on his user page to tell him how nice it was. :ohmygod: :lmao: I don't want to be too much of a jerk about it but I think it should go without saying that an avatar that someone has created specifically to represent their own presence in an online community should not be taken as free for your own use. Make your own FFS. This is a community for creative folks and it's not THAT hard. That is all. :)

I contacted the helpdesk about it yesterday so I hope it will be resolved soon.

Favourite quote of the day: "HEAVY METAL MARTHA STEWART, ACTIVATE!" - nataliedee [link]
I am getting my shit together right now to bake some lemon and lime squares for a party this weekend. :headbang:

I'm not particularly happy about the avatar hijacking but I can't change the mood on this thing right now. :| Fuck you, dancing loading dude.

UPDATE: I got a reply back from the helpdesk and the avatar has been removed. :w00t:

I've also just downloaded UF5, has anyone else tried it yet? I won't be uploading any devs with it until I've paid for the upgrade but the new features sound awesome.

Stock DD! OMG

Journal Entry: Tue May 6, 2008, 11:17 AM

:wow: I logged into my very unknown stock account, ~trystian-stock today and was very surprised to see a whole pile of messages. If you've been around here on dA for a while you know that most likely means one thing: A DD! I rendered a starter parameter I came up with at the *Ultra-Fractal chat on Sunday, and posted it up there for anyone who wants it. I'm so happy I got a DD on that unknown account, and I really needed something like that to cheer me up and get me feeling more creative! I've been kind of in a funk lately, for various reasons.

I'll definitely be posting more UF starter parameters, stock renders, and anything else I can think of to ~trystian-stock. UF is an intimidating beast when you're just starting out and I'm hoping these resources will help. I'm thinking about doing some texture layers/layer packs, tutorials, useful colouring layers, mask shapes, maybe some cool objects like trees etc. ... Let me know if there is anything you would like to see or need help with. We have so few UF resources around here and I think it's a program that lends itself well to sharing all kinds of goodies. :giggle: Plus making resources is fun!

Talk to me!

Journal Entry: Sat May 3, 2008, 11:05 PM

:iconultra-fractal: is holding a chat this afternoon at 1:00 pm EST. The topic is going to be Gnarly formulas and colouring algorithms... Gnarlies make some really interesting fractal shapes. I'm not entirely sure about all of these, they look like gnarlies but there are a few related formulas and algorithms so I might be wrong about some of them. Anyway here are a few examples of Gnarl at work:

Mark Townsend also has a LOT of great examples of gnarly work in his galleries: [link] I'm pretty sure he wrote the first gnarly formulas and OCAs so his work is definitely worth a look.

It would be great to meet some of you there. :w00t: I'm going to have UF open so I'll probably throw out some free gnarly parameters. :blowkiss:

Meet me in #UltraFractal at 1:00 pm EST today!

Death, very sad...

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 22, 2008, 7:47 PM

Lost the best grandpa ever last week. I was closer to him than my dad. He was only 68. I don't want to go into too much but medications he'd been taking for years to treat RA, which I also have, compromised his immune system and left him vulnerable to a rare infection after open heart surgery. It happened so fast, I haven't really even absorbed it yet. He was suffering terribly for the last few weeks. It's hard but at least it didn't last too long and he's not in such horrible pain anymore.

I have some great ideas for artwork. I feel like my long uninspired phase is over. Now I'm just down and physically sick from stress. I really hate this disease. It might take me a while to do anything productive. My presence around this place will probably continue to be pretty unreliable, real life is just getting in the way.

Eh, sorry to leave such a depressing journal entry. More positive stuff will follow.

Daily Deviation About TEMPONAUT II by *morbidorbits, the Suggester writes: "It's rare to find such a good mandelbrot midget these days. Old school fractal exploration is becoming a lost art; but this deviation is a great example of the hidden gems that can still be found in the depths of your favourite formulas. This kind of pure beauty shows that you don't need any fancy-pants colouring algorithms or post-processing to create a stunning work of fractal art." Life

Life seriously sucks at the moment. My grandfather had a mild heart attack a few weeks ago, it was scary but we were expecting a fairly quick recovery. Tests showed some blockages around his heart so he had to have triple bypass surgery. Ok. My grandfather also has rheumatoid arthritis, and has been taking medications for years that have damaged his immune system. The surgery went well, he seemed to be doing alright, but now he's developed a rare infection, nocardiosis. We've been informed that he will need to spend 6 months to a year in hospital while they attempt to treat the infection, but his chances of survival are <20%. He's in Florida right now but is being sent back home (Ontario) by air ambulance asap. I'm very close to my grandparents so it's been very upsetting, but we're definitely not giving up hope. I am an atheist but I'm praying anyway, it can't hurt. :please:

UF Resources Project

The idea for this project came when I was browsing the Fractal Resources category here on deviantArt and noticed a complete lack of good resources for Ultra Fractal users. The purpose of this unofficial project is to encourage our community to share parameters and other UF resources here on dA to support our fellow UF artists. Participating is very simple, all you have to do is upload your Ultra Fractal resources and make sure you mention the UF Resources Project in your deviation description to make your work easier to find. I think this project could go a long way in generating more community spirit among UF users if enough people participate. Even if you don't have any resources to offer, just spreading the word would help a lot too. Frankly I'm sick of seeing talented UF artists completely overshadowed by those other guys. ;) We need to speak up more and support one another to show everyone that there's more than one way to make great fractal art. I'll be watching the gallery and will make a special collection of UF resources to keep track of them and feature them where I can. Something like this should force me to be a bit more active in the community myself.

To kick this project off I've made a sort of mini tutorial and parameter set to illustrate the use of vignette layers in Ultra Fractal work. It's a technique that I use in my own work all the time and I'm sure some people will find it handy. You can view it on my long-dormant stock account here: :icontrystian-stock:

I'm also working on a stamp and plan to write a news article about UF Resources as soon as I can. I know we have a good (but quiet!) UF community around here and I hope some of you will support me on this. :)
